Natural henna, or "henna," is a plant with the botanical name "Lawsonia inermis." It contains an orange-red pigment called "lawsone." When the henna leaves are crushed in an acidic medium, the pigment is released, allowing the plant to impart color. Once dried, the leaves are ground and sifted to produce a powder. It is precisely this famous natural henna powder that we sell, ready to use for your coloring needs.

But what are the benefits of henna for hair or nails? How do you prepare your henna? We’ll tell you everything!

The benefits of natural henna for hair

First of all, unlike chemical hair dyes, henna doesn’t damage your hair. It’s actually the most natural way to color your hair, giving it a beautiful shade with auburn highlights. As a 100% natural product, natural henna offers numerous benefits. It:

  • colors gray hair,
  • strengthens the roots,
  • promotes hair regrowth,
  • slows hair loss,
  • strengthens weakened hair,
  • protects brittle hair,
  • adds volume to dry hair,
  • makes hair shiny,
  • reduces excess oil on oily hair,
  • is effective on all hair types.

Finally, natural henna is once again highly sought after by those who use non-toxic beauty products that are therefore safe for health.

A Sunnah for women: henna on the nails

Although it is mentioned in prophetic medicine, it is henna as a Sunnah for Muslim women that interests us today.

Indeed, the subject is mentioned in a hadith narrated through ‘A’isha رضي الله عنها. This hadith explains that the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم said to a woman who was handing him a note from behind a curtain: “If you were [vraiment] a woman, you would have dyed your nails with henna. ” (Reported by Ahmad in Al-Musnad 26258)

It is also worth noting that applying henna to the nails has antifungal properties. Yet another way to take care of yourself naturally.

The natural henna recipe

So, how do you use this henna powder? The recipe is really very simple.

Simply mix the powder with water to form a more or less smooth paste. Some people add lemon juice. Then, you can apply it directly without letting it sit. However, if you want a slightly deeper color, it’s best to let the mixture sit for 6 to 24 hours.

As for quantities, note that you’ll need an average of 150 to 200 grams of henna powder for medium-length hair. Additionally, you can use about 300 ml of water for every 100 grams of natural henna powder. Adjust the quantities to suit your needs to achieve a paste that’s easy to spread.
